Based on internal discussions and documentation, here is a summary of the data residency decisions:

The legal and engineering teams agreed on a multi-region deployment model where enterprise customers can choose their data storage region (US, EU, or APAC) at contract signing. This was driven by GDPR requirements and several enterprise prospects requesting EU-only data storage.

Key decisions:

  • Region selection is locked at onboarding and requires a support ticket to migrate
  • Backups and logs also stay within the selected region — no cross-region replication
  • SOC 2 Type II audit scope was expanded to cover all three regions

Just wrapped up the review with outside counsel. The consensus is we need to offer EU-only storage as a default for any customer with EU data subjects. Three of our enterprise prospects (Siemens, Bosch, Unilever) have this as a hard blocker in their procurement checklist.
